The natural gas unit of Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) has implemented Zontec's Synergy 2000 SPC software to manage data coming from 65 on-line gas chromatographs within its gas separation plants. The gas separation plants extract raw material and gas products for petrochemical plants.
The implementation, which was accomplished in less than two weeks, was a joint effort between PTT, E.mation Technologies Pte Ltd., BlueChips Technology Pte Ltd. (Zontec's Singapore representatives), and Zontec US.
The gas chromatographs (GC's) monitor feed gases, in-process gases and product gases at various locations. Each GC reads two to three gas streams, each providing up to 10 components for analysis.
After the GC's read the chemical compositional values, data is then routed to a Yokogawa Centum Distributed Control System. The Yokogawa system is connected to an OPC Server that assists in bringing the data from the plant control system into the Windows platform.
Zontec's Synergy 2000 Multi-function Toolbox serves as the communication bridge between the OPC Server and the Synergy 2000 OPC client application. In total, there are 400 Synergy 2000 Data Tables (process characteristics) - all with SPC charts.
Using the Synergy 2000 Manager Level, PTT has created a plantwide monitoring and reporting dashboard for each location and an enterprise dashboard to monitor and report on all four locations simultaneously in real time.
